Action!

Today marks day one of three of the BCS Winter Carnival!

Students started the day by chanting their house cheers in chapel before heading to their morning classes. Once the clock struck noon, everyone raced off to lunch before heading down to the field for the Great Race—an obstacle-course relay race consisting of such challenges as potato sack jumping, digging through snow, sled surfing, and piggyback rides. A big shoutout to our Advancement Department for organizing a sugar on snow event during the race to replenish our energy. This popular sweet treat is a Canadian favourite—fresh maple syrup poured on snow that turns into a sticky and gooey candy. Later in the afternoon, hockey fans crowded the Bishop’s University arena to cheer on our 18U/Varsity Hockey team as they took on Stanstead College. Tonight, each house will have a special delivery from the Carnival Committee to celebrate a successful first day of carnival.

B·C·S Win·ter Car·ni·val
(noun)

A three-day festival of friendly house competition that originally started in the winter of 1963 by Form V students who wanted to shake off the late winter blues and arouse greater school spirit. It is widely known in the BCS community for being "as great as Christmas" (Gavin Lissebeck, BCS'22) and strengthening the feeling of belonging.
