From March 12 to 16, ten of our Bears made their way to New York City where they represented the Netherlands at the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) conference. The conference included many committee sessions which involve negotiations, making resolutions, and writing final resolution papers. They discussed topics that are pertinent to the world today such as migration and human right issues. The keynote speaker at the event was Linda Thomas Greenfield, the US Ambassador appointed by president Biden.
Reflecting on her experience, Ivanna G. R., Form VII, said, “The Model UN trip was one of the highlights of my year. I met a lot of incredible people from all over the world, and created memories with the ones I already knew during the conference, but also during our free time. Participating in a MUN conference taught me a lot and strengthened abilities like communication.”
The content of their trip extended beyond the conference—our students also took the time to discover the city that never sleeps. They attended a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, walked through Central Park, and visited the MOMA, amongst many other activities.
A big thank you to Mr. Andrew St-Amant and Ms. Amber Rommens, the trusty chaperones who accompanied our students on their trip. Mr. St-Amant, experienced Model UN advisor, even received a 10 years of service award during the opening ceremony. Congratulations!
