Athletics at BCS

Athletics are an integral part of daily life at BCS, with students participating in either team or individual sports at least five times a week. We call after-school sports ‘crease.’ All students participate in three creases per year: fall, winter, and spring. We have a wide range of options and levels for students who seek the thrill of competition, as well as those who wish to experience a sport for the first time.

With more than 20 different sports to choose from, there is something for everyone at BCS – and we’re always expanding! Both the volleyball and lacrosse creases were brought back by student-led initiatives in the past two years.

Facilities

BCS Athletic facilities include an on-campus indoor hockey rink, two full-size basketball courts, a 40-foot climbing wall, three international squash courts, and a fitness centre. Outdoor facilities include six sports fields, a newly-renovated tennis court complex, and several kilometres of wooded cross-country trails. A university swimming pool, and the local curling club and golf course are all within walking distance of BCS.

Athletic Recognition

We are proud to recognize our students’ achievements through a variety of different ways:

Athletes of the Month
Every month, the Athletics department recognizes four athletes for their outstanding contribution. These athletes, one boy and one girl from both competitive and non-competing teams, are selected based on effort, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and performance.

Crease Awards
Crease Awards are presented to our students at the end of each semester during a special Athletics Awards Assembly in chapel. Awards are given to students who have demonstrated the most improvement, the most contribution to the team, and for showing team leadership.

Students who demonstrate skill, positive attitude on and off the field, and who lead by example are awarded Team Colours at the end of each semester.

Crease Banquets
Crease Banquets are held at the end of each semester to celebrate the achievements of our students.
