Lacrosse as we know it today is a modified version of a game that was played as early as the 17th century by the First Nations. On May 12, 1994, the National Sports of Canada Act declared ice hockey to be the official winter sport and lacrosse the official summer sport of Canada. The skills and athleticism for lacrosse are similar to that of ice hockey.
Our team practises five times a week, learning and developing game strategy, and working on technique and skills. There are four main positions in lacrosse: attack, midfield, defence, and goalie. There are also specialized positions such as defensive and offensive midfielder. Our home games are played on Coulter Field at Bishop’s University, a stadium with artificial turf that allows for true bounces and an exciting, fast-paced game. We compete within the ETIAC, playing four league games, followed by playoffs. In addition in the 2017-18 season, we will enter the Galt Lacrosse Jamboree where we will play against high school teams from elsewhere in Quebec.
