A better UNderstanding
Several Form VII students participated in the virtual Quebec Model United Nations 2021 conference this weekend.
Since the beginning of the year, students from Mr. Courchesne's Global Politics class and Mr. McCormick's World Issues class have been learning about international organizations and political systems, including different concepts and issues related to human rights, development, peace, and conflict. Our students learned about these topics for the preparation of the Quebec Model United Nations (QMUN) theme of this year's conference, “Protecting the human rights of climate migrants” and “Promoting the human rights of Indigenous Peoples.” The conference was held virtually along with students from different CEGEPs and undergraduate university programs from across Quebec. Our students represented Spain, Peru, Côte d’Ivoire, United Arab Emirates, and Poland, amongst others.
"Having myself participated in QMUN 2010 as a student, I can say for sure that this multifaceted activity helped me understand new perspectives [and] learn more about the politics and the culture of a country about which I had little knowledge," explains Mr. Courchesne. "It also helped me become a more confident public speaker and develop ties with people with whom I still get news from."
All students who participated this weekend will have a pizza party tomorrow during lunch in Mr. McCormick's classroom.
