A celebration of Black history

Our community celebrated Black History Month throughout the month of February.

During junior chapel last Wednesday, and senior chapel today, Tafara, Anouk, and Metta presented to their peers on Black History Month. They taught us about the importance of celebrating the legacy and accomplishments of influential Black leaders in history and in today's society. They also shared ways that we can support Black-owned businesses and creators.

Throughout the month of February, Mme Simard brought us along a musical journey with songs from our community's favourite Black artists. Earlier this week, Mr. Obermeir shared about the origins of ragtime from its humble beginnings in African-American communities to its far-reaching impacts on jazz and pop music of today.

Thank you to everyone who participated in educating our community about Black History Month. Let's continue to hold these conversations, not only in February but throughout the year.

To see a glimpse of the presentation from this morning, watch the video below of Tafara, Form VI, who recited a poem in Zulu called "Incwadi Yothando YesiZulu."
