A different angle
As part of their geometry unit, Mr. Szathmáry’s Form IV Mathematics class took a hands-on approach to learning.
Using Play-Doh to create different shapes, students took part in an activity to learn about the difference between geometry and topology. They learned that the mould of a coffee mug and donut are the same topological shape. “Topology is an advanced mathematical field that has applications in theoretical physics and cosmology,” explained Mr. Szathmáry. This is a great introduction to another way of thinking about shapes in our reality!
