A part of the action

Last Thursday, Ms. Rowell's Environmental Science & Technology class took apart small appliances.

In pairs of two, our students took their objects apart carefully, piece by piece, documenting each step. Each pair was assigned an object including every day items such as a fan, projector, and a scale. Duru and Mathilde were assigned the CD player/radio which included intricate electrical components that were studied and catalogued. Once all the pieces were dismantled, each part was examined to determine the material and function. The final and most challenging step of the activity was to put the appliance back together. Our students worked together successfully and completed the activity, while having fun during the entire process!
