A show of hands

Ms. Jones' Form IV English Language Arts class performed puppet shows in front of a few of their peers on Thursday.

Students read the text Borders by Thomas King and then paired into teams to analyze themes within the text, identifying themes that occurred throughout the body of work. They then created their own characters and puppets, and developed a skit to represent one of the themes they read and analyzed, but through their own words and stories.

After each puppet show, students justified why they portrayed each theme the way they did. The themes most identified included: loss of innocence growing up, justice, cultural pride/heritage, societal expectations, honesty, stereotypes, and racism.
