Over the past month, our French teacher, Mme Deschenes, has been giving workshops about sign language in Mr. Ho’s Theory of Knowledge (TOK) class.

“In Form VI TOK, we embarked on the Knowledge and Language unit where we explored language as a way of knowing and different theories of meaning,” shared Mr. Ho. To help them dive into the subject, he enlisted an expert on the topic, Mme Deschenes, who has a Ph.D. in sign language. She dismantled stereotypes about the deaf community and showed students different signs from around the world. One in particular had a few students giggling—the sign for ‘brother’ in Japanese Sign Language. We will let you Google that one at your own discretion!
