An apple a day keeps the mummies away
Mr. White's class took a hands-on approach to their Ancient Egypt module today.
Mr. White's student assistant, Ms. Charlotte Armstrong, a fourth-year education student at Bishop's University, led the Form II History class this afternoon. The activity involved turning apples into mummies with a mix of household items to resemble the process of preserving bodies in ancient Egypt. Before embalming, students weighed and measured their apples and carved faces into them. Ms. Armstrong asked everyone to write down their mummies' stories, including their cause of death and social class. After that, each student placed their apples into a plastic bag with baking soda and salt and shook the bag to coat the apple entirely.
Throughout the next two weeks, the class will observe the size and weight of the apples as they mummify! We can't wait to 'wrap up' the activity and see the mummies transform.
