Fare thee well
In 1989, on the 150th anniversary of BCS, we had the honour of having Prince Philip inspect the BCS No. 2 Cadet Corps.
This unique opportunity was made possible by Old Boy G. B. Okill Stuart, BCS'37, a long-time friend of the Prince. Okill was educated at BCS and at Gordonstoun School, Scotland, where H.R.H. Prince Philip was a classmate. As a result of the school ties, Philip accepted an invitation to be the inspecting officer at the Annual Cadet Review. He also read the lesson in St. Martin's Chapel.
In 2017, Amanda Jelowicki, BCS'93, of Global News spoke with the late Okill Stuart, BCS'37, about his friend Prince Philip. Watch below:
His Royal Highness’s unwavering commitment to young people began back in 1956 when he established The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the UK. Since then, millions have participated in more than 130 countries and territories – building the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to be ready for the world and to make a difference to the world around them. BCS proudly participates in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program and in this past year alone, 145 students completed the necessary requirements in community service, skills building, physical recreation, and outdoor adventuring to receive a bronze, silver, or gold Duke of Ed pin. Our thanks to Prince Philip for establishing this program that allows our students to develop and thrive. Rest in peace, Prince Philip.
