Gender and culture inclusion
Mr. St-Amant and Mr. Dueck's Form VI classes teamed up for content analyses of children's books, movies, television shows, and commercials.
The focus was on gender enculturation—the process by which we learn the ways, norms, and expectations of our culture from a young age. Do children’s books, media, television shows, or commercials today serve as a way of teaching children about appropriate gender behaviour? Using this question as the basis of their project, students explained trends in their media findings and created a graphic representation to showcase their research. Each group was also tasked with identifying difficulties they had with their research and the implications of their findings.
