On the topics of evolution and adaptation, Mr. Wilt's Form II Science and Technology class held a bird frenzy simulation.

One of Mr. Wilt's favourite class activities is a bird feeding game where students can act like hungry birds. "I call it controlled chaos, but it ends up being a lot of fun for the students," joked Mr. Wilt. Everyone is assigned a bird species and they must collect different items (aka bird food) from a table with a tool. On the count of three, students run to the food table with their tools: spoons, paper clips, and magnets, and have one minute to collect as much food as possible. The activity takes place in five rounds (five years) and the food becomes sparser after each round. The birds who can collect the most food can 'populate' and gain another bird member. Students must learn to adapt their tools to get more food and work together to evolve their bird species.

The Middle School academic program at BCS, for Form II (Grade 7) to Form V (Grade 10) students, emphasizes effective learning skills and self-growth alongside a robust curriculum following six subject areas. More information about the program can be directed to Middle School Academic Coordinator, Mr. Scott Manning.
