Life is like a box of chocolates

Ms. Barton's Form VII IB Business and Management class is taking learning up a notch with an exciting chocolate tasting activity.

With a total of ten different brands of chocolate all unwrapped and split into bite-size pieces, our students had to compare the price and quality of the sweet treats. The chocolates were labelled one through ten and students worked together to place each number on the product positioning map. After tasting and positioning each chocolate, the brands and prices were revealed.

"To conclude the tasting we discussed how the brands related to other products in their category and how a company might further position itself or develop a unique selling point," explained Ms. Barton. "One of the brands is fair trade and supports wild animal rehabilitation with a percentage of their sales." In the next class, our students will have to take this information and apply it to a product of their choice explaining the distribution of products and companies, and why companies have positioned themselves in a specific area.
