Read the North
The Library and English Department teamed up this week for I Read Canadian Day.
According to the I Read Canadian Day website, this holiday "is a national day of celebration of Canadian books for young people." Observed on February 17 across Canada, this holiday is a time to recognize all of the amazing authors of Children’s and Young Adult Fiction genres that call Canada their home.
English teacher and Librarian, Max Crowther, organized a time for students to be able to read Candian works for at least 15 minutes today. During first period, students from Ms. McGie's Form IV English Language class met in the library to have quiet time with a Canadian book of their choice, while students in Ms. Carey's Form V class completed a lesson on Canadian children's literature with a writing assignment on their chosen book.
This week, Mr. Crowther has been sharing some of our communities' favourite books from Canadian authors on the Peter G. Holt Memorial Library's Instagram account. Some of their favourites include Lynn Johnson's "For Better or for Worse," Daniel Loxton's "Ankylosaur Attack," and Sarah Henstra's "We Contain Multitudes." Head to our Instagram stories for more Canadian literary suggestions!
