ReconciliACTION
Ms. Shawna Chatterton-Jerome (Mi’kmaq from Gesgapegiag), Coordinator of Indigenous Student Support at Bishop’s University, joined us this morning to share a presentation on ‘National Week of Truth & ReconciliACTION.' The significance of dedicating an entire week to this cause is rooted in the vast amount of work required to promote reconciliation and create meaningful change. During her presentation, Shawna emphasized the role of allies and outlined several actions we can take, including and most importantly: doing your own homework. Take the initiative to educate yourself about Indigenous history, culture, and issues. Don't rely on Indigenous people to do this work for you.
Following Shawna's presentation, our community marched through campus, wearing our orange shirts. We would like to extend our gratitude to Chaimber for his presentations on Monday and Tuesday during chapel as well as Shawna for joining us this morning.
We encourage everyone to join us in Sherbrooke this Saturday, September 30 for the ‘Every Child Matters’ commemorative walk (click the link for more information and the official time and meeting point).
