The benefits of boundaries

Our School Counsellor, Ms. Marie-Noëlle Gattuso, c.o., recently updated the bulletin board outside her office.

The theme for this board is 'boundaries' and includes a bountiful supply of information and tips about setting limitations. "[In our life] we all go through different experiences that shape how we think and how we act," explains Marie-Noëlle. "It is really important to tell others what we need and where our personal limits are. Boundaries are important for protecting our physical and mental well-being." The board includes some helpful exercises and quick tips to practise boundary-setting such as creating an invisible bubble to protect ourselves through communication. The first step in creating stronger and deeper relationships is learning to say 'no' or 'I'm not able to do that,' and using sentences that start with 'I feel.'

We encourage our students and community to take a moment and read the bulletin board when walking through School House—we can all learn something new!
