Trial run
Ms. Jones' Form IV English Language Arts class is currently reading a novel titled Monster by Walter Dean Myers.
The novel is presented as a screenplay and tells the story of a teenage boy on trial for murder. The students were all assigned roles within the screenplay to read aloud in the theatre and visualize the story. Throughout the exercise, students were able to stop and ask Ms. Jones questions about legal terminology that they weren't familiar with, such as 'subpoena' and 'jury duty'.
Once Ms. Jones' class finishes the book, they will analyze the text and debate the main character’s innocence, simulating a court of law.
