Vote of confidence
With the 2021 Canadian Federal Election that took place yesterday, our community orchestrated a BCS mock election to educate our students on politics.
Social Sciences and IB Global Politics teacher, Mr. Courchesne, and Social Sciences Teacher, Mr. McCormick, organized a mock election to vote for a political party and local candidate. The project was carried out nationwide, in over 950 schools, and in collaboration with CIVIX-Canada, a non-partisan organization whose mandate is to educate students about Canadian democracy. Mr. Courchesne and Mr. McCormick sent out emails to the community showcasing a different main political party of Canada each day last week to prepare our students for the big day.
The election booths were led by our students and took place during the morning break and lunch in the gym. Staff and faculty were equally encouraged to vote and take part in the excitement. The process helped educate our students on the importance and guidelines of voting in elections along with educating them on Canadian politics.
Keep an eye out on our stories for the mock election results—coming next week!
