With great Powell comes great responsibility
This morning during chapel, Alvin Powell took us on a motivational journey while sharing his upbringing.
Mr. Powell endured a tough life going through the ups and downs of fame and substance abuse. As a former NFL offensive lineman with the Seattle Seahawks and the Miami Dolphins, his struggles with drugs and addiction came to overpower his life and brought him to his lowest point. Now Mr. Powell uses his story to shine a light on the dangers of drug abuse through sorrowful, and also sometimes comical storytelling of his life's events.
Mr. Powell started speaking to students in North American schools in 2014 and has since inspired countless students to reach out when help is needed and recognize the dangers of drugs. After chapel, our students were encouraged to stay and talk to him individually. He answered questions about drug use and provided resources through the Saving Station Foundation, a registered Canadian charity dedicated to the prevention of youth substance abuse.
A special thank you to the Student Life Department for bringing dynamic speakers to our community to raise awareness about important topics that our youth face today.
