With pride
Purple was sprinkled everywhere today as our community observed Spirit Day.
Spirit Day was started in 2010 by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan, in response to several widely publicized bullying-related suicides that year. Our BCS Pride Alliance organized a fundraiser today for students to dress down (wearing purple!) in exchange for a donation of only $2 to support LGBTQIA+ youth. All money raised will go to Dans La Rue, which supports homeless and at-risk youth.
Why purple? Because purple is the colour that represents Spirit on the pride flag. Join our community in wearing purple today and every day to symbolize our pledge to stand up and speak out against LGBTQIA+ bullying.
