Re-thinking the classroom

Dec. 8, 2016 | You may have noticed an exciting new space with some funky new furniture up in the library this week…

Under the direction of Head of Enrichment Mr. Hunt, an experimental lab-class has been set-up. The specially designed classroom furniture, on loan from Aquest Design of Montreal, is highly adjustable and can be moved around and connected together for a variety of different classroom set-ups and designs. The chairs and tables reflect the research of Dr. Dieter Breithecker, which concludes that the ability to move in and about a classroom is beneficial to the learning process.  This test space will remain for the next few months so that all teachers and students can try it and reflect on their experience through an online survey. Some classes have already been held in the space, and many students have been seen taking advantage of the furniture during prep and study breaks.
Reactions so far are wide-ranging but one thing’s for certain: it's excellent timing as we gear up for next week’s exams!
