Masked thespians

Jan. 25, 2017 | Mrs. McGie’s class got an introduction to masked theatre in Drama this afternoon.

While some of their fellow classmates were off campus for ski crease, 13 Form III students got to experience a mask workshop. A video detailing the evolution and interpretation of masked acting throughout the ages was followed by some time for the budding actors to work with masks themselves. Mrs. McGie put the initiative together to challenge her students and demonstrate how acting methods can differ when a mask is worn. Although working with a mask can take some getting used to (some of our thespians found it decidedly uncomfortable and awkward!), it also creates a lot of freedom and can enable a completely different persona when a face is hidden.
