Physics on ice

Jan. 12, 2018 | Ms. Rowell’s Form VII Physics class was on the ice in Memorial Arena this morning to study the conservation of momentum in collisions.

Equipped with their skates, a motion sensor, and a slow motion video, the students were analyzing how the velocity of different objects changes during collisions. As Ms. Rowell explained, being on skates on the ice models a frictionless surface as the students (with the help of Mr. Madsen) collided together to see what would happen. The class will analyze the results of the experiment during their next period on Monday.
