Experimenting with static electricity

Jan. 17, 2018 | Yesterday, Mr. Madsen and Mr. Logan-Chesney treated their Form V students to a demonstration on static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator.

During this lab, the science students learned how the Van de Graaff generator uses a rotating belt to produce static electricity charges. The students were then able to experiment with how these charges can be transferred to different objects including themselves. It’s fair to say that many had a truly shocking experience!
