Overcoming obstacles

Feb. 23, 2018 | A refugee student from Bishop’s University shared his experience with our community this morning.
Hasan Raad is a refugee student from Iraq who is now studying at Bishop’s University and plans to become a doctor. Hasan has had to overcome extraordinary challenges and obstacles in order to even have the possibility of achieving that career goal - something we often take for granted here in Canada. He explained to us his family’s situation in Iraq and the steps that led him to apply for sponsorship and move here to study at a Canadian university. His family is still in Lebanon, where they fled in 2014, and applying for refugee sponsorship in other western countries. He concluded his speech with some passionate advice about determination and always questioning the status quo.

Thank you, Hasan; we are privileged to have you share your story with us.
