Tyler in Thailand

September 13, 2018 | Our Yearbook Advisor, Tyler Gordon, is teaching it up in Thailand!

As the world celebrated International Literacy Day last Saturday, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate a BCS community member’s contribution to literacy abroad. As you might have seen in our Photo of the Day on June 1, Tyler has been teaching English to Burmese refugee and migrant children in Thailand for the past few months. In a late-summer email update, he shared some thoughts on the challenges and rewards of the volunteer project. “For me as a teacher, sharing in their excitement is one of the best feelings,” he wrote about the moment students understand the material he’s teaching. "They are moments that are likely to stay with me forever.”
