October 24, 2018 | We had a very special morning assembly in the Quad in honour of Take Me Outside Day.
Take Me Outside Day (or TMO Day for short) is an initiative founded by Colin Harris in 2011 that highlights “the importance of unplugging and spending time outside, being active, and connecting with nature.” Since its inception in 2011, more than 1 million students have taken part in the initiative.
We participated in the event for the first time this year, starting off with morning assembly in the Quad featuring music by our very own Mr. Brandon. Throughout the day, teachers and students headed to one of many campfires set up in the Quad for a special outdoor class experience—our dining hall even got in on the fun providing hot chocolate and marshmallows to make the experience even cozier! Our first edition of the event was largely spearheaded by Ms. Rowell, our Science and Mathematics teacher. No stranger to the outdoors, Ms. Rowell also leads the Adventure Training crease. “I love being outside and thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to get everyone at BCS outside. I wanted the students to see that the outdoors is a great place to learn and that getting people out of their regular routines can really inspire creativity and can make lessons more memorable and interactive.”
