Mar. 21, 2019 | As Mitchell Family House nears completion, we invited the residence's namesakes for a tour.
Our last update on Mitchell Family House was exactly two months ago, so it's high time to share what our assiduous construction team has been working on! Since January, work has been completed to seal the building, which is now being heated with geothermal energy. Plumbing, wiring, and finishing is ongoing inside the building while insulation is almost completely installed on the exterior walls. The precast concrete arrived this week and work is now underway to install it at the main entrance. On March 14th, three members of the Mitchell family—Ann, KHC'53, Antonia, KHC'55, and Will, BCS'63—joined members of our Advancement team for a tour of the building. "There's going to be so much natural light!" Ann expressed excitedly as they visited one of the dorm rooms with almost floor-to-ceiling windows. They explored all three levels of the residence, including the houseparent apartments, student rooms, common areas, and spaces dedicated for our Scholar-in-Residence program.
We can't wait to experience the views of our forest and green spaces once windows have been installed. In the meantime, take a look at the progress so far in the time lapse video below!
