A new year of resolutions

Apr. 29, 2019 | Our Student Life Committee is working to improve our campus, one idea at a time.

Late last week, a group of 11 students met in the conference room to discuss details about a five-pillar proposal to improve student life at BCS. The project was spearheaded by Alfonso, who was inspired by his experience writing resolutions at this year's National High School Model United Nations in March. By applying this structure to some of the ideas put forward by the Student Life Committee, he drafted a proposal geared toward modifying certain school policies related to discipline, residences, activities, and uniforms. The group is also proposing the creation of a Student Council or Ombudsperson to bring even more student voices into decision-making conversations around BCS. Ms. Lowry, who helps coordinate the group's meetings, applauded the students for their initiative and their structured proposal. This is just one of many projects undertaken by the committee this year including social events, a new dining hall sign, and some snazzy shorts!

After a few rounds of edits, the proposal will soon be brought to our Associate Head of School for Student Life, Mr. Tessier, to see how we can work these suggestions into the Student Handbook next year.
