You know the drill

Dec. 11, 2019 | This morning's fire drill was a great opportunity to practise our emergency preparedness!

At BCS, the safety of our community is one of our most important concerns. That's why we hold drills and information sessions throughout the year to keep students and staff informed about emergency procedures. Our first fire drill took place in September and was announced to the full community, while today's drill was only known to faculty and staff. After a few short minutes taking attendance in front of School House, Mr. Garbutt, Manager of Property and Material Services, congratulated everyone on their composure and timeliness. Students were dismissed and quickly went back inside where hot chocolate and snacks waited for them in Ross Hall.

While we don't often share stories about the planning and training involved in keeping our students safe, parents can rest assured that our administration team is dedicated to keeping our campus prepared for any emergency. From our three fire drills to our annual lockdown procedure staff training and our campus-wide building access system, we're lucky to live in an environment where our students' biggest safety concerns are rogue snowballs and eating too many Christmas cupcakes!

As always, students and parents are able to access safety-related information on the BCS Safe app. This free app features emergency contacts, health resources, a virtual Walkhome system, and alerts from BCS Security. Download it on Android and iOS.
