Jan. 22, 2020 | Our Physical Education classes were skating up a storm in Memorial Arena today!
While we regularly feature our U16/Prep and U18/Varsity teams, our century-old arena also hosts students and community members of all ages and skill levels. During the winter months, Mr. Nadeau tries to get students on the ice as often as possible while still exposing them to a variety of sports. About once every four classes, our students get free reign of the arena, where elite hockey players and novice skaters alike can enjoy this traditional Canadian pastime. A newcomer to the sport, Moises made the most of his time on the ice this afternoon. "I really like it and I'm getting better every time!" Form II students also held their class in the rink, where half the ice was used for a high-intensity hockey game with the other half dedicated to practising agility, balance, and getting down to the dance tracks booming from the arena speakers.
Since the beginning of the year, we have been enjoying new LED lighting in both the arena and the gym, which not only reduces our power consumption but also allowing them to turn on faster for impromptu pick-up hockey games or figure skating competitions over students' lunch break. Combined with our new cooling system, our athletics department is continuously trying to maximize our students' use of the space. We can't wait to see what they'll do to improve the spaces next!
