Mar. 2, 2020 | We launched our first-ever Tech Week today.
Spearheaded by one of our science teachers, Ms. Barbara Rowell, and supported by our library staff, Mr. Max Crowther and Ms. Anne Holland, this week's events will see a range of activities led by members across our community including a Repair Café, a Digital Photography Workshop, and a Science Fiction writing workshop. "I wanted to introduce an event where everyone on our campus could get involved—newbies and technophiles alike," Ms. Rowell explained. "I think it's the perfect opportunity to learn from each other and show how technology can relate to the other STEAM fields and, more broadly, to our everyday lives." This morning after a brief introduction about the event, Xavier, Vio, and Alfonso gave a short presentation about some of the more unusual career opportunities available in the field of technology, with favourites including Roller Coaster Engineer, Pyrotechnic Engineer, and Storm Chaser. At lunchtime, Izzy and Justine led a 2-D Digital Illustration and Animation Workshop in the library, and to cap off today's events we welcomed back alumnus Jonathan Crowther, BCS'15, via Skype to talk about the fields of Computer Science and Engineering.
Throughout the week the library will be hosting a variety of workshops, as well as several alumni guest speakers. The inaugural event will culminate this Friday with our Annual Career Day for our Form V and VI students. Click here for a full list of activities!
