Mending minds

Mar. 3, 2020 | Today's Repair Café in the library saw the mending of gadgets and garb of all kinds!

On the second day of our first-ever Tech Week, the library's multipurpose meeting space was transformed into a Genius Bar for all things old. Students and staff alike were invited to bring their broken or worn-out electronics, appliances, and even clothing for our young makers to tinker with. A few 'repair gurus' were on hand to help, including Ha An who has experience repairing phones, Ratanak who dove into students' malfunctioning laptops, and Gabe whose mixed-media-maker skills saw him tackle a broken coffee maker. Several members of staff also joined in on the fun as enthusiast mechanic Mr. Brandon brought in a lawnmower, Mr. Hopkins helped students with small appliances, and Mrs. MacLachlan demonstrated sewing techniques. With tools from our Robotics class available to all, many students tried their hand at repair work including William and Yasmin who collaborated to fix the gearbox in a remote-controlled car.
