Our Cross Country Running team wrapped up another successful season on Wednesday.

Coaches Mr. Pfliger, Ms. Jones, Mr. McCormick, and Ms. Rommens spent the beginning of September preparing runners for competition by building the runners’ skills, knowledge, endurance, and self-awareness of the sport through a variety of techniques, drills, stretches, and warm-up exercises, challenging routes, and cool down routines. During the season, our team competed locally in a total of five races, with finals held here on home turf course ‘The Gauntlet’ last Wednesday.
The team started the season off strong, collecting 37 team points in the first competition of the year held at Massey-Vanier High School. Zofia (Form V) earned a 2nd place finish while Ximena (Form III) fought hard for her 3rd place finish, both in the Junior Girls division. Mehdi (Form VII) finished in 1st place for Senior Boys.
The second meet, held at Stanstead College, saw Zofia, Natalia (Form IV), and Ximena finishing 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the Junior Girls race. Mehdi and James (Form VII) placed 1st and 5th in the Senior Boys 6km division. Joel (Form II) ran his first race at the Bantam level and received a 6th place finish.
Zofia placed 1st in the Junior Girls category while Natalia and Ximena placed 3rd and 6th  respectively at the third meet held at Richmond Regional High School. Seniors Xindi and Valeriia came in 4th and 5th. On the boys' side, Joel took another 6th place at the Bantam level and James finished in 3rd in the Senior Boys division.
It was a very cool and windy day at Galt for the fourth race of the season. There were many performances of note, including Zofia, Natalia, and Ximena placing 1st, 3rd, and 6th, respectively in the Junior Girls category. Meanwhile, Xindi came in 3rd at the Senior Girls level. On the boys' side, Olivier placed 6th in the very competitive Junior Boys grouping, while mainstays Mehdi, James, and Aidan garnered 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the Senior Boys division.
In the final competition of the season, the team put forth an excellent effort to secure second place in the ETIAC standings. Our runners collected 42 total team points on Wednesday, which enabled them to overtake Stanstead for second place by 12 points. On the girls’ side: Zofia, Natalia, and Ximena finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Junior Girls category. Valeriia finished 4th and Xindi placed 6th in the Senior Girls division. Meanwhile, on the boys side, Joel ran a great race to finish 6th in the Bantam Boys division, Olivier placed 6th in Junior Boys, and Mehdi, James, Aidan, and Antoine were 3rd , 4th , 5th, and 7th respectively in the competitive Senior Boys grouping.
“This group was an enjoyable mixture of people who worked well together, improved their fitness significantly, and pushed each other competitively to achieve their success,” said Coach Pfliger of the season. Congratulations, Bears—until next year!
