BCS announces new Head of School
June 4, 2015 | We are excited to welcome Mr. Tyler Lewis as our next Head of School!
Dear BCS community,
After three years of exceptional leadership of BCS, our Head of School, Mr. Will Mitchell, will be retiring at the end of this school year.
The BCS Board is delighted to announce that Mr. Tyler Lewis, from the Holderness School in New Hampshire, has accepted our offer to be the new Head of School as of July 2015. His many accomplishments, strength of character and commitment to boarding schools helped him stand out among a strong field of candidates. He has extensive experience working in schools like BCS and has held a wide range of positions over the years – teacher, houseparent, coach, administrator, and mentor, among others.
Throughout the selection process, Mr. Lewis demonstrated that he is an excellent thinker, an inspiring leader and collaborator, and a true believer in the transformative powers of small boarding schools.
All those who met Tyler were impressed with his credentials as well as his humility. He studied at Colby College in Maine, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics. He went on to complete a Master’s of Education at Harvard University.
He began his career in 1995 at Blair Academy in New Jersey as a math teacher, coach, dorm parent and administrator. He was involved in many aspects of school life and acted as Associate Director of College Counseling and Director of Financial Aid. He coached several varsity teams, including football and hockey. From 2001 to 2006, he worked as a consultant at Carney, Sandoe & Associates in Boston, advising schools on strategic planning and recruitment. Since 2006, he has been the Director of Admission and Director of Financial Aid at the Holderness School.
Tyler is joining BCS at an exciting time. The school has a strong enrolment with a remarkable and diverse collection of students. Our graduates are gaining admission to a broad range of excellent universities. We have an outstanding team of faculty and staff. To ensure BCS remains forward looking and meeting the needs of tomorrow’s leaders, the school has begun a review and refresh of our strategic vision, which will engage all of our constituencies.
Please join me in welcoming the Lewis family to BCS. Tyler will be joined by his wife, Renee, and three young children, Benjamin, 6, Finnegan, 3, and Hadley, 1. Accompanying them will be Baxter the dog. They will be residing in Plantation, the historic Head’s residence at the edge of the St. Francis River.
