Our golf team won the ETIAC playoff finals on Sunday, finishing second overall in the league behind Alexander Galt Regional High School after a close season.
Members of the team presented golf coach and Director of Athletics Mr. Bray with the trophy on Monday morning at chapel after securing the win against Alexander Galt Regional High School, Stanstead College, and Collège du Mont-Sainte-Anne this past Sunday at Milby Golf Club.
Earlier this season, the team got off to a solid start at their own tournament, the BCS Invitational, held at the Old Lennoxville Golf course. Led by Alfonso's one-under 69, the Bears finished five strokes behind Galt for second place, claiming silver medals. A few days later, they narrowly missed finishing in first place at the Stanstead College Tournament held at Dufferin Heights Country Club.
Our Bears were in second place behind Galt by 12 strokes following the ETIAC Semi-Finals at Sherbrooke Golf Club, but put in an excellent effort and ended up winning the championship tournament by two strokes over Galt (329 to 327). Stanstead College took third place and Collège du Mont-Sainte-Anne finished fourth. With this result the team moved closer by two strokes, but unfortunately finished the season ten strokes behind Galt over the course of four tournaments – a very tight league, indeed!
BCS’ four top golfers for the final tournament were Alfonso, Sebastian, Andrew, and Ronnie. Special note and congratulations to Alfonso who shot the low round for the tournament at plus 3 (76), an impressive round given the strong winds. Alfonso deserves more special mention, as he won all four ETIAC tournaments this year, one of them in a play-off against fellow teammate Sebastian, and established himself as the player to beat in the league.
“Despite narrowly finishing in second place, the BCS Bears Golf team had a very successful season,” said Coach Bray. “We had some new golfers figuring in the overall scoring of the team and a number of personal best rounds played during the season. All players should be congratulated for their effort and steady improvement.”
The season may be over but the team remains active with several members joining the Advancement Office in Toronto for the 5th Annual Alumni and Friends Tournament at Devil’s Pulpit this past Monday. Way to go, Bears!
