Moulton Hill Moments: February 2025

February was fast and furious on the Athletics front! From the basketball court to the swimming pool, BCS Teams made us proud.  Special Thanks to Jeff Bray, Director of Athletics, for this incredible overview. Go Bears!

11: Senior Girls Basketball was back on the court after the February break and played a solid game, but ultimately lost to College Mont Notre Dame. That same day, our BCS Curling Team was back at it, also in ETIAC league action; it was a tough one, losing 10-3 to Richmond. They are hoping to rebound in the playoffs coming up on February 25th.

12: A huge, and extremely exciting Varsity Hockey victory over Stanstead College, 4-3 in a shoot-out, 7 or 8 shooters before we finally put the game away. Our Junior Girls Volleyball Team won 1 of 4 games as they hosted other ETIAC schools. They are preparing for their ETIAC playoffs on February 25th.

14 &15: Junior Boys Basketball hosted the BCS Invitational Tournament and were up against older and higher level teams throughout the weekend. Despite the difficult games, they persevered and took away a lot of lessons to be used in future games.

Vassili (Billy) P. was chosen to the All-Star team for BCS.

Junior Girls Basketball was divided into two teams for the BCS Invitational and, despite splitting into two, did very well. Team 1 were victorious in their first game, sending them to the Championship side of the draw, where they lost an incredibly intense but exciting semi-final game to Villa Maria, 25-21. Our girls came away with a convincing victory to claim 3rd place overall. Team 2 lost their opening round, sending them to the Consolation side of the draw. After a close semi-final loss, they challenged Trafalgar School for Girls, where they pulled off a thrilling overtime win to end the tournament on a very positive note.

15 –17: Prep Hockey participated in the PPHL Playoffs, and had a successful start, but ultimately fell in the semi-finals 2-0. Despite out-shooting their opponents 40-14….sometimes a really great goalie is what it takes to steal the show.

15: Varsity Hockey travelled to Ulysse, after a tight game, they ultimately lost this one 4-2.

15: Our BCS Swim Team travelled to the pool at Ecole La Ruche in Magog, where Stanstead College hosted the meet. We had many excellent individual results, establishing a very good position as they head to the ETIAC finals at Bishop’s University on February 26th.

18: An emotional game saw our Senior Girls Basketball Team pay respects and share sympathy for their opponents from Stanstead College, who had recently lost their Head Coach. They wore red ribbons in their hair, signed a sympathy card, posted an In Memoriam note and placed a bouquet on the chair their coach would have used on the sidelines. The teams also gathered for a photo. As for the game itself, it was a bit of two games in one. BCS came out strong and was leading at halftime, then Stanstead caught first in the second half and erased the deficit to end up taking the victory home. Despite the loss, our girls showed exceptional spirit, effort and sportsmanship and have greatly improved as a team throughout this season.

The Senior Girls Volleyball Team headed to Alexander Galt for the last tournament before the ETIAC playoffs. As the girls entered their second game against Stanstead, they were one win ahead in the standings, but after a 21-14 loss, they were tied for the top spot in the league. Stanstead won the tie-breaker by 7 points and won the league banner. Our girls are now setting their sights on winning the playoffs at BCS.

Our Junior Boys Basketball Team travelled to Coaticoook to play their RSEQ quarter-final game vs La Frontaliere. After the first quarter, the team rallied back from a 14-point deficit and slowly chipped away at the lead, but despite all their best efforts, La Frontaliere scored the last few baskets to take away the victory 51-43.

An excellent season for this team and first-year coach and BCS teacher John Dorval.

Our Senior Boys Basketball Team hosted their quarter-final match-up against Ecole Monique Proulx. Having not played in nearly two weeks, the coaches were unsure what to expect, but BCS was ready and came out strong to lead by 9  points at halftime. The second half was a real battle, with the Bears ultimately holding on to their lead to beat Monique Proulx 47-43.

21-23 Weekend Roundup:

Ski Crease spent an amazing weekend at Mont-Sainte-Anne and Le Massif.

Senior Boys Basketball: Lost 38-32 to Richmond Regional (eventual champions) in the RSEQ semi-finals. They went on to beat College Claretain 49-30 in the bronze medal game and also came back with the League banner for their section.

Prep Hockey: Lost Friday to Kuper Academy and rallied to win 8-4 at home against Edge (a school from Calgary, Alberta).
